Out of the mouths of babes, Martin summarizes the Golden Rule, the Wiccan Rede: “An ye harm none, do what ye will”, British legal philosophy, the foundation of Western law, and the basis of all major religions for the last 5,000 years. You don’t do good because you’re afraid you’ll go to hell if you don’t, or you’ll go to heaven if you do.cl You don’t do good because it’s the law. You don’t do good because you’recl religious. You do it for the same reason my strong atheist wife does goodcl — because it’s the right thing to do!

"What a long and strange trip it's been", said the Greatful Dead. Not that I'm a particularly big fan of the band, but it's a good quote nonetheless. I'm a child of the '60s, but didn't really care for much of the popular music at the time, preferring to be a classical snob. But writing modern "serious" classic music doesn't pay the rent, so I fell into computer programming, which was a good creative outlet (albeit typically not very artistic) and paid the bills.

Now I see the light at the end of the tunnel of a long career, yet I doubt I'll stop working and creating. It'll just be on my schedule and my terms. But there's still a little time left before that, so I'm freelancing for awhile.
